Assistant Teacher, Early Childhood

Waldron Mercy Academy, a co-ed private Catholic elementary school serving students from pre-school through eight grade, is seeking a full time Early Childhood Assistant Teacher to start late August 2025.

We are seeking a motivated professional who is passionate about early education and who can help to create a classroom environment where the joy of discovery inspires learning, while maintaining a safe, friendly and inclusive environment for all students.

Essential Functions:

• Assists with planning, preparation and implementation of daily lessons and activities, including playground activities. Observe in order to evaluate student progress.
• Assists in arranging the classroom environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy.
• Able to anticipate and prevent problems, deal with disruptive children, provide fair but firm discipline, and be enthusiastic and constantly alert.
• Maintains open communication with students, teachers and other aides, ensuring confidentiality.
• Understands and complies with all school policies and procedures.
• Assists in all required record keeping.
• Assists in maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all.
• Reports any suspected abuse to the supervisor.
• Attends in-service and staff meetings relevant to the job.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

• Works in a fast paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• Able to bend and lift up to 45 lbs.
• Able to move around the room easily and continuously.
• Able to get down on the floor to be level with the children during play, naptime, or special activities. Also able to be level with them at the table multiple times including meal or snack time.
• Able to take children out to the playground and for walks and provide supervision.
• Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
• Works intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
