Westtown School is seeking an energetic and customer-oriented person to assist with food preparation and dining room service, including general cleaning, and other support of the Dining Services Department. This is a full-time, year-round position with some evening and weekend work required. Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and life insurance benefits, paid time off, paid holidays, 403b retirement contributions, as well as tuition remission.

 

Westtown School is a Quaker independent, co-educational pre-K to 12, college preparatory day and boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia.  Located on a beautiful 600-acre campus, Westtown offers state-of-the-art facilities where our committed faculty and staff inspire and prepare our students to be stewards and leaders of a better world. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Provides friendly, efficient, and helpful service;
  • Assists with meal preparation, service, and collaborating with the student work program;
  • Assists with food set-up and closing responsibilities according to the Assistant Kitchen Manager’s specifications;  
  • Performs food replenishment and displays food items;
  • Follows wrap, label, and date procedures for all food items;
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area and completes daily and weekly cleaning as assigned by the Assistant Kitchen Manager;
  • Ensures that proper food handling practices are followed;
  • Notifies managers of all maintenance and safety issues;
  • Maintains knowledge of school property and staff as necessary to perform assigned duties;
  • Reports all accidents to the Kitchen Manager immediately;
  • Works efficiently and collaboratively with other team members;
  • Participates in departmental meetings and all necessary training.

 

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma, or equivalent, is required
  • Some prior food service experience is preferred
  • Experience in a customer service position is highly desirable
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License 
  • A team-oriented spirit and the desire to work in a team environment
  • Able to lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 25 lbs regularly using proper moving and lifting procedures
  • Able to stand, walk, sit, and climb 
  • Able to push and pull heavy loads
  • Able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.
