Human Resources Generalist

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HR Generalist will provide leadership and expertise by collaborating with leaders across the University to ensure human resources processes and planning are managed effectively and in compliance with university and regulatory policies.  The successful candidate will demonstrate good judgement, expertise in human resource functions and regulations, and work collaboratively to those managing employees and employment related issues.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, wellness programs and other benefit programs.
  • Assists with open enrollment process, employee benefit inquiries and administration of benefit programs.
  • Recruits, interviews, assesses candidates, and facilitates onboarding of new employees to create a seamless hiring process that supports the University's goals of attracting strong talent that best service our students, faculty, and employees.
  • Manages employee performance review process that facilitates dialogue between staff and managers, addresses performance deficiencies, documents and supports employee growth, and promotes goal development.
  • Involved in the development and delivery of training programs covering a variety of topics to enhance the professional development of employees.  Utilizes Vector training programs.
  • Ensures the University follows all employment laws and reporting requirements.
  • Addresses employment-related inquiries from employees and provides relevant information to appropriate supervisors.  Maintains documentation as appropriate.
  • Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings and investigations.
  • Collaborates on creating and updating University policies and procedures, as necessary.  Works with employees to ensure compliance with policies. 
  • Collaborates on the payment of all department invoices, conducts reconciliations, submits payments in a timely manner.
  • Conducts new hire orientation for new staff and faculty.
  • Participates in annual TIAA CREF 403(b) audit.
  • Supports Director with special projects and strategic objectives of the Human Resources Department.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements: 

  • BA/BS Degree in Human Resources or a Business- related degree 
  • Experience in an HR role handling Generalist tasks in all areas of HR; specifically experience with employee relations, recruiting, employee relations and engagement and performance management
  • 3-5 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Possess initiative, creativity and outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills along with the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities
  • In-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Ability to coach employees and managers in a solution-oriented manner which encourages positive outcomes
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of ADP WFN system (preferred)
  • High computer literacy with exposure to Microsoft Office and SharePoint.

Preferred Requirements: 

  • PHR, SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Experience in higher education preferred.
