ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for one 6th grade homeroom and teaching Language Arts to all students in 6th grade.
Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
Facilitates classroom discussions and prepares and delivers presentations on topics such as poetry, novel structure, grammar and usage, and effective writing styles.
Instructs students individually and in groups, using a variety of teaching pedagogy to enhance individualized learning.
Prepares, administers, grades and records assessments in order to evaluate students' progress.
Collaborates with other teachers and administrators.
Maintains regular communication with parents and guardians and meets when necessary to discuss their children's progress and needs
Attends parent-teacher conferences, class trips, retreats, and extra-curricular activities such as open houses and homecoming.
Attend professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence
QUALIFICATIONS:
PA Teaching Certification-Middle level English or English
Bachelor's Degree In a Related Field of Study
Three Years of Teaching experience at an appropriate grade or age level preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with students, parents and colleagues
Demonstrated organizational skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Works in a fast paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines
Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs
Works primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment
Works intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
