Upper School History Teacher
Friends Select School seeks a full-time Upper School History teacher to start in August 2025. This position involves teaching three sections of 10th Grade Modern World History II, as well as two semester-long senior electives. Friends Select is looking for an educator who is passionate about integrating and modeling Quaker values and principles into the upper school teaching, learning, and daily life. The ideal candidate will also enjoy working collaboratively within a school community of students, faculty, and parents.
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Take a friendly and collaborative approach to teaching in order to create an inclusive learning  environment for all students
  • Collaborate with upper school teachers and other educators within the school
  • Consult with the Director of City Curriculum to cultivate relationships with city institutions to enhance coursework
  • Actively participate in additional upper school activities, such as student clubs and committees
  • Advise a small group of students each year
  • Use discussion-based pedagogies and experience guiding students through research projects
  • Help students refine their questioning, critical reading, analytical writing and class discussion skills
  • Combine a passion for content area with investment in evidence-based teaching strategies
Qualifications/Skills:
  • At minimum, Bachelor's degree in a related field; graduate degree preferred
  • 3+ years of teaching, preferably with upper school students
  • Extensive knowledge and training in teaching world history, and preferably some knowledge of the history and institutions of Philadelphia
  • Commitment to Quaker values, anti-racism and social justice
  • Experience and proficiency with online learning tools
