AIM is currently seeking an experienced and engaging Middle School Physical Education and Health Teacher.

The PE department is supported by a collaborative Athletic Team. Experience teaching students with language-based learning differences like dyslexia and dysgraphia, as well as students with processing or attention issues, is preferred.  

The Physical Education and Health Instructor reports directly to the Director of Athletics and Division Head. The Physical Education and Health teaching team work collaboratively to support the curriculum throughout all grade levels and may teach classes in other divisions

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and teach physical education classes in collaboration with the current physical education team. 
  • Teach Middle School health and physical education classes by incorporating wellness education, activities, and initiatives into the curriculum and support physical education classes cross-divisionally. 
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate the needs of all students.

  • Embody and represent the school's mission and values within daily practice and teaching.

  • Demonstrate ability and experience using a variety of teaching pedagogies in an inquiry-based program.
  • Provide safety instruction to students and establish standards of student behavior to provide a productive environment for physical education and to ensure the optimal condition and safety of all athletic equipment, facilities, fields, and courts.
    • Communicate any concerns with student conduct with a direct supervisor, parents, and MS Dean of Students.

    • Participate in committee, department, and staff meetings as well as school-sponsored events that would benefit from area of expertise. 
    • Be involved in the school community at large. 
    • Model a commitment to exercise and physical conditioning, health education, and personal hygiene. 
    • Assume responsibility for other projects as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Student Life. 

    Qualifications

    • BA/BS degree in Physical Education
    • At least three years of physical education teaching experience at the MS level
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and in written form
    • Ability to establish positive relationships with the children, parents, and colleagues
    • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills at student and parent levels
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Deep respect for children as learners and individuals
    • Ability to work flexibly and collaboratively with students and staff
    • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and lifelong learning
    • Experience in providing responsive, evidence-based instruction to students who learn differently
    • Strong technology skills and familiarity with assistive technologies
    • Adaptive learner and self-starter
    • Sense of Humor, Patience and Flexibility

    Not required, but preferred qualification:   

    • Coach or assist in an interscholastic sport in each season (fall, winter, and spring) - Additional stipend role. 
    • Obtain and maintain a recognized strength, conditioning, and fitness certification or the equivalent as determined by the Director of Athletics (or willing to obtain within the first year).
