Westtown School seeks a full-time general Groundskeeper to start immediately.  As a member of the facilities team, the Groundskeeper will assist with the overall maintenance of the campus grounds, athletic fields, and other school property. The regular hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a year-round position with full benefits, including Paid Time Off, paid holidays, health, dental, and vision coverage, retirement contributions, tuition remission, long-term and short-term disability coverage, and life insurance. Facilities team members are considered essential personnel and, as such, are expected to be available during inclement weather and other school-closing situations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Mow grass, prune and trim shrubs and small trees, and apply mulch utilizing appropriate equipment;
  • Operate a tractor, loader, and other departmental vehicles;
  • Weed and maintain flower beds and other landscaping;
  • Plant trees/shrubs and annuals, as directed;
  • Assist in maintaining athletic fields and recreational play areas including layout, lining, mowing, seeding, fertilizing, etc.;
  • Assist with the removal and disposal of trash and debris;
  • Maintain campus driveways and parking lots;
  • Plow, shovel, and remove snow when necessary;
  • Provide support and manpower to other campus departments as necessary;
  • Maintain professional and appropriate relations with all community members at all times;
  • Maintain knowledge of school property and staff as required to perform assigned duties;
  • Report unsafe conditions or suspicious activity as necessary;
  • Remain committed to safe work practices and energy conservation at all times;
  • Participate in departmental meetings/training as necessary;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Physical Requirements 

 

  • Lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Lift, carry, or otherwise move up to 100 lbs. occasionally and with assistance
  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for extended periods
  • Must be able to climb ladders
  • Must be able to push and pull heavy loads




Qualifications 

 

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of one year of experience in the care and maintenance of similar facilities or equivalent education, training, or experience
  • Knowledge of horticulture, plants, trees, and shrubs is desired
  • Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must have a positive can-do attitude, work well independently, and work effectively as a contributing member of the team
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.
