Position Summary

The Hill School seeks an Instructor of History for the upcoming academic year. Working closely with other members of the History and Social Science Department, this teacher will be responsible for classroom instruction; communication with students, parents, and student advisers; and remaining current on educational practices. This position is only for the duration of the 2025 - 2026 Academic School Year.

More specifically, responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Teaching one to three assigned sections of History, likely to include some combination of the department's core offerings in US History, World History, or 20th Century History.
  • Teaching 50-60 students per year.
  • Serving the school's co-curricular program for three trimesters as either a coach or program leader.
  • Serve on various school committees and participate in the school's co-curricular and residential programs.
  • Participating in the school's student life program as an adviser and by providing residential or supervisory duty on periodic weeknights and weekends.
  • Writing official school courses, advisory, residential, and co-curricular comments on students throughout the year.
  • Writing recommendations to college and various programs on behalf of individual students as necessary.
  • Meeting with parents as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have a genuine willingness to work closely with students and colleagues.
  • Must have a high energy level, and, of course, a good and enduring sense of humor!
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver's license and be willing to drive students.
  • A bachelor's degree is required; a master's degree is preferred.

Start date for this position is July 1, 2025.
