We are seeking a motivated and innovative Computer & Graphic Design Teacher to join our faculty. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in both fields and a desire to inspire students through engaging, hands-on instruction that integrates technology and design. Given the rapidly evolving nature of computer science instruction and curriculum, the ideal candidate would be a life-long learner, continually seeking to develop our curriculum.

This position will involve teaching the following courses:

  • Digital Media Applications is a computer science elective for Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. In this semester course, students will create a portfolio of digital design work.  This will simulate a portfolio one might put together in a job search.  The primary units will be computer aided design (3D printing), digital art (p5.JS) and web design (HTML/CSS).  The semester will culminate in a final project, bringing all the elements into a comprehensive portfolio. The emphasis will be on project-oriented, original work.
  • Graphic Design is a computer science elective for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. In this semester course, students will learn how to visualize their ideas electronically using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. They will create projects based on design concepts, illustration, advertising and marketing from the artist’s point of view.
  • Digital Art and Illustration is a computer science elective for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. In this semester course, students will create original, custom digital paintings using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.  Students will learn the elements and principles of design, as well as foundational concepts of visual communication.  Through image editing and digital drawing, they will put into practice the art principles they’ve learned.  The course will include an exploration of career opportunities in the design, production, display and presentation of digital artwork.  Students will also respond to the artwork of others and learn how to combine artistic elements to create finished pieces that effectively express their ideas.  Assignments will have an emphasis on concept, creativity, communication, technical achievement, and presentation.
  • This position also involves working with our freshmen in their required class to teach them basic computing skills, email etiquette, and drive and file organization.

The ideal candidate should be proficient in the following areas:

  • Commitment to the Catholic identity of the school and the mission of the IHM charism.
  • Efficiently communicate complex concepts in an accessible and engaging way.
  • Proven fluency and willingness to use technology to enhance instructional delivery, including teaching in a virtual environment and one-to-one instruction.
  • Ability to conduct ongoing assessment of student growth and progress and to modify instructional methods and curriculum to fit individual needs of students of varying levels and abilities.
  • A willingness to continuously acquire professional knowledge and pedagogy including current developments in the discipline by attending seminars, workshops, or other professional development opportunities.
  • Learning and utilizing the school’s learning management and student information systems for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required.
  • Navigation skills for digital workflow.
  • Instructional adaptations using iPad and other technologies.
  • Providing an advisory role to help guide students with course management, study skills, and social development.
  • Fostering a positive learning environment and helping students achieve their academic goals.
