Westtown School seeks an experienced Director of Alums Engagement. Reporting to the Dean of Advancement, the Director is responsible for developing and executing mission-aligned programming and communications to foster meaningful and impactful engagement that will deepen a lifelong commitment to supporting the School. 

 

Westtown School is an independent, Quaker co-educational, pre-K to 12 college preparatory day and boarding school located in suburban West Chester, PA, approximately 30 miles from Philadelphia. On a beautiful 600-acre campus, Westtown offers facilities where our committed faculty and staff inspire and prepare our students to be stewards and leaders of a better world.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

Research, implement, manage, and evaluate engagement opportunities that strengthen and deepen connections with the School, supporting the school’s strategic vision and mission.  

 

  • Provide direction, guidance, and support for the Westtown Alums Association board to produce measurable outcomes;
  • In collaboration with Advancement colleagues and with departments throughout the School, manage the planning and execution of the annual Alums Weekend and other on and off-campus events; 
  • Regularly engage and inform constituents in a strategic, innovative, and personal manner through personal visits, events, print publications, social media, and other forms of communication (e.g. the Westonian, periodic newsletters, digital messaging, alum portals and platforms, etc.);
  • Collaborate with Advancement Office colleagues to identify new prospective donors and solicit annual financial support from a portfolio of constituents;
  • Meet or exceed visit and fundraising metrics;  
  • Refine and expand tools and metrics to measure effectiveness and track engagement;
  • Expand opportunities for alum-student interaction and networking. Educate graduating students about alums benefits and engage them in programs;
  • Manage the alums engagement budget;
  • Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required; an advanced degree is preferred;
  • Four or more years of experience in alum engagement/advancement is preferred;
  • Experience working in an independent school environment or similar organization is preferred;
  • Ability to work independently, innovate, collaborate, and take initiative;
  • Results-oriented, with the ability to respond and adapt to changing situations appropriately; 
  • Ability to develop and manage effective volunteer systems; 
  • Ability to strategize, implement, and evaluate engagement activities, 
  • Curiosity and analytical thinking; complex problem-solving ability; openness to new ideas;
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to live the School’s mission and vision around equity, justice and belonging
  • Willingness to travel;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously with close attention to detail and accuracy; meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment; 
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficient with the Google Suite; proficiency with Raiser’s Edge software preferred;
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends is required; 
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
