Position Purpose

DURING THE ACADEMIC YEAR, the Director of Middle School Out-of-School Time (OST) Programs develops and manages the Middle School after-school program (ASP) activities and projects for 5th-8th graders and provides administrative support to the Director of Auxiliary Programs and other aftercare and enrichment (ACE) programs, including support to the Transportation Coordinator, ensuring students transition to district and private transportation.

DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS, the Director of Middle School Out-of-School Time (OST) Programs supports Summerside Camps as the Assistant Site Director, with a focus on developing and managing the Middle School-aged summer programs and offerings. This leadership role interacts with a diverse constituency of internal and external individuals at all levels of the organization and provides high-quality customer service to all members of the local community, representing both SCH and non-SCH stakeholders. This role will start as soon as possible.

Essential Functions

I. Program Management

  • Provides leadership and management of the Middle School after-school and summer programs.
  • Plans, implements, and supervises all activities related to after-school programming, providing fun, enriching, safe, and age-appropriate activities that match student interests.
  • Acts as the Assistant Site Director of Summerside Camps in the summer months and assists with staff hiring, management, and other camp leadership duties.
  • Provides on-campus supervision of staff, students, vendors, and guests in all related Auxiliary programs.
  • Provides support for the Auxiliary Program's "ACE DAYS" [select dates when SCH is closed to families but student care is offered.]
  • Provides substitute coverage for Auxiliary Programs leadership during absences.
  • Supports the safety of all children, staff, and guests.
  • Supports leadership and after-hours transportation needs.
  • Orders supplies and maintains inventory for all Middle School programs' needs and for other Auxiliary programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Auxiliary Programs.

II. Enrollment and Programming

  • Creates, builds, and manages programs for Middle School students, for after-school hours and summertime.
  • Arranges age-appropriate activities for all Middle School students attending after-school programs.
  • Generates a programming calendar of all SCH Middle School programs, teams, and clubs..
  • Tracks daily attendance of students and support staff.
  • Supervises all Middle School after-school students, including managing behavior and upholding SCH policies.
  • Logs accidents and incidents according to SCH policy and communicates with stakeholders as needed.
  • Oversees program registration and processing of all forms and communication via the CampBrain enrollment platform.
  • Creates newsletters and communications to both share with families and for marketing purposes.
  • Assists the Director of Summer Programs with all planning, programming, staffing, and management of Summerside Camps with a focus on the Middle School programs.
  • Supports Auxiliary Programs and Middle School Departments as needed.

III. Staffing

  • Hires and manages staff, including all training.
  • Publishes weekly staff schedules.
  • Tracks and enters hours for non-exempt employees in the isolved Time and Attendance platform.
  • Creates and submits stipend requests for exempt staff to Human Resources.
  • Manages vendors and vendor compliance and agreements.

IV. Customer Service

  • Provides accurate and quality customer service and information for all inquiries via phone, mail, or email.
  • Liaises with families and SCH Division/Departments to resolve student/family needs.
  • Serves as the SCH ambassador and host at special SCH events, scheduled by Auxiliary Programs.
  • Collaborates with representatives from various school divisions and departments, including Middle School, Auxiliary Programs, Arts, Athletics, Transportation, Facilities/Security, and Lower School (ACE).

V. Other Duties

  • Manages daily snack program.
  • Reserves and coordinates facilities for all programs.
  • Maintains membership in industry groups and attends conferences, as approved by supervisor.
  • Stays current with best practices, research, and trends in out-of-school-time program topics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 5 years of experience working with BOTH out-of-school-time youth and summer programs.
  • Experience in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong cultural competency with a commitment to creating and supporting diverse, equitable, and inclusive communities.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with, supervising and leading, and motivating senior and general staff.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship building.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency skills and enthusiasm for issues of diversity, equity, inclusivity, and belonging.
  • Fluent in leveraging technology to manage program operations, Google Suite, databases, and HR/payroll systems.
  • A high level of integrity and an extraordinary work ethic.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience with enrollment management systems.
  • Experience with interviewing, hiring, and managing staff, as well as HR best practices.
  • Well-developed collaborative work style; ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Passionate about working with children and families.
  • An independent and strategic thinker with a track record of follow-through on areas of responsibility.
  • A positive outlook and a sense of humor.
  • Ability to work Monday-Friday, between 7:30 am and 6:00 pm, generally from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, as well as other hours on occasion.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs.
  • Regularly use close and distance vision.
  • Regular sitting, standing, and/or walking, along with the need to bend, climb, reach, kneel, and sit on the floor/ground/grass.
  • Work in a traditional climate-controlled school environment and an outdoor environment with a moderate noise level.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Able to move around the classroom and other school environments.
