Long-term Substitute Middle School Math Teacher

Westtown School seeks a long-term substitute teacher for Middle School Math, beginning October 27 through December 19.  The successful candidate will be familiar with educational technologies and will have experience with and a passion for teaching Middle School students. Teaching assignments will include Accelerated Algebra (8th Grade), Accelerated Math 7, and on-level Math 6. 

 

Additional responsibilities include supervision of the math lab, offering one-on-one math support, as well as other related activities that contribute to the Middle School community and the educational experience of our students. The successful candidate will be a motivated educator with strong content knowledge and a keen interest in working with Middle School students.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Develops culturally competent and responsive lessons and learning activities that promote problem-solving, creative thinking, collaboration, and effective communication skills while encouraging risk-taking in learning;
  • Contributes to building and sustaining an inclusive community and a program that reflects diverse cultures and perspectives;
  • Actively involves students in the classroom through group work, project-based learning, exploration, questioning, discussion, and other cooperative teaching techniques;
  • Interest in 21st-century pedagogy, integrated performance assessment, and continued professional growth are essential; 
  • Supervise/facilitate divisional duties (e.g., study hall, recess, lunch, arrival/dismissal);
  • Integrates technology seamlessly into teaching strategies and practices;
  • Enthusiastically seeks out and participates in both school-sponsored and self-selected professional development opportunities to grow as an instructional leader;
  • Communicates effectively with all constituents – colleagues, administrators, parents, and students.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in Math or a related subject is required; an advanced degree is preferred;
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of relevant classroom teaching experience preferred;
  • A strong character with a team-oriented spirit, and the ability to connect meaningfully with students throughout our diverse community;
  • A deep commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices;
  • Strong affinity for the mission of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school’s Quaker values.
