The Baldwin School is seeking a dynamic, collaborative leader to serve as its next Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) beginning July 1, 2026. Overseeing Baldwin's DEIB mission-aligned work across all facets of the School and its community, including advancing Baldwin's commitment to belonging and academic and intellectual pluralism, the Director will report directly to the Head of School and serve as a strategic partner to the Senior Leadership Team, implementing DEIB initiatives aligned with our strategic plan. This role will support Baldwin's commitment to developing independent thinkers who can analyze multiple perspectives, engage respectfully with diverse viewpoints, and draw thoughtful conclusions, cultivating the intellectual courage to question assumptions while maintaining strong relationships. The Director of DEIB will foster a school environment that celebrates the cultures and traditions of families in our community and prepares all girls to thrive in diverse environments. They will collaborate with colleagues to foster an inclusive community where members from all backgrounds can be authentically themselves and experience a strong sense of belonging at Baldwin.
Responsibilities include:
- Partner with Head of School and Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement Baldwin's mission-driven DEIB vision, strategy, and measurable outcomes;
- Lead Baldwin's DEIB initiatives under the third pillar of our strategic plan: Cultivating our Community;
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to advocate for inclusion and belonging across all constituencies and inform strategic decisions;
- Advise the Senior Leadership Team on best practices in DEIB integration across curriculum, wellness, admissions, hiring, communications, and operations;
- Design and lead professional development that strengthens inclusive pedagogy, equitable practices, and cross-disciplinary DEIB integration;
- Build faculty capacity to support academic and intellectual pluralism, navigate multiple perspectives, hold complexity, and facilitate courageous conversations;
- Provide proactive coaching to administrators, faculty, and staff on DEIB policy, programming, and culturally responsive practices;
- Partner with the Director of Human Resources to strengthen hiring, talent management, and HR policies for equity;
- Serve as an accessible resource for students, families, faculty, and staff on DEIB matters;
- Support and advise affinity groups and leaders across all divisions;
- Partner with DEIB parent affinity groups and serve as a liaison between these groups and the School;
- Attend school meetings, division gatherings, and external events to provide support and maintain visibility;
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A graduate degree in education, school leadership, or a related field;
- Experience in and expertise leading DEIB programs;
- An understanding of child and adolescent development; Knowledge of and experience working in a school environment preferred;
- The ability to represent the best interests of the School, its mission, and strategic priorities;
- A strategic mindset and an understanding of and ability to navigate the changing landscape of DEIB work;
- A commitment to, and understanding of, Baldwin's all-girls mission;
- An understanding of creating, managing, and delivering high-quality, comprehensive training and education programs;
- A genuine interest in and enthusiasm for working with both children and adults;
- A transparent and accessible approach coupled with the tact and interpersonal skills necessary to build and sustain diverse relationships with broad constituencies;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong presentation skills with a variety of constituencies;
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and professional boundaries; and
- A warm, supportive, and relational style grounded in approachability, transparency, and responsiveness.
