Position Summary:  The Haverford School is seeking full-time, temporary, long-term substitute instructional specialist to begin in January 2026. Preferred candidates will have at least 3 years’ experience, a solid understanding of differentiated instruction, and a strong understanding of instruction aligned with the science of learning.

 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with colleagues to implement instructional practices aligned with the research-based curriculum.
  • Supports staff in the implementation of inclusive practices in curriculum planning and assessment, which supports the regular reviewing of the learning environment, daily routines, activities, and social interactions to enable children of diverse abilities and backgrounds to participate at an appropriate level in both individual and common tasks.
  • Identifies and provides instructional resources and contributes to lesson planning development in specified areas.
  • Works with teachers to expand their use of a variety of resources to differentiate and improve instruction that is aligned with the THS curriculum.
  • Ensures that student benchmarking and progress monitoring is integrated with curriculum-based data to drive instructional decisions at the classroom level.
  • Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to use instructional and benchmark data to create instructional plans for small group instruction.
  • Facilitates collaboration and communication between the support team and colleagues.
  • Participates in weekly grade-level meetings with the Lower School Support Team.
  • Possesses an understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and the implementation of those principles in independent schools.
  • Perform all other duties, tasks, and assignments as directed by the Head of Lower School.

 

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education, or related field
  • Content knowledge and expertise in research-based grade-level curriculum and assessment procedures
  • Record of successful delivery of curriculum content
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues and parents
  • Enthusiastic interest in teaching, motivating, and mentoring lower school students and teachers
  • Willingness to collaborate with peers.
  • Has familiarity with current guidelines, policies, and regulations as they pertain to education.
  • Possesses creativity as well as strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Has engaged in professional development on the science of reading, visible learning, social and emotional learning/development, and student-centered teacher coaching
  • Experience with classroom management and positive behavior support systems.
  • Has experience designing and implementing a diverse curriculum that promotes equity and inclusivity.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain positive and productive working relationships with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds

 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred 3 years’ experience
  • Familiarity with current research on the education of and learning styles of boys
  • Experience with coaching and/or mentoring teachers
  • Pennsylvania Level I or II certification
  • Aptitude in teaching children with varying abilities and learning styles
  • Experience teaching literacy aligned with the science of reading and writing, and math aligned with principles of spaced learning and visible learning.
  • Familiarity with a comprehensive literacy program

 

Required Physical Characteristics

  • Works in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled office environment.
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
