Middle School English Teacher & English Language Learner Instructor Friends Select School is seeking an inspiring and student-focused Middle School English Teacher to join our community for the 2026-27 school year. In this role, you will lead the design and delivery of a rigorous, engaging, and culturally responsive English curriculum that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and effective communication. You will help students develop strong reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while connecting learning to real-world experiences and students’ interests. Your instruction will emphasize inclusivity, student voice, and intellectual curiosity, creating a supportive classroom where all students can thrive. There may also be opportunities to provide support to a small number of English Language Learners (ELL), helping them access and succeed in the curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Middle School English using a values-driven, developmentally appropriate, and engaging curriculum
Design lessons that develop literacy, communication, and critical thinking skills across diverse texts and genres
Foster an inclusive, supportive, and collaborative classroom environment that encourages student voice and curiosity
Integrate technology effectively into instruction, writing processes, and collaborative learning activities
Provide timely, constructive feedback and meaningful assessment on student progress
Serve as an advisor to a small group of middle school students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional growth
Participate in middle school activities, clubs, assemblies, and community programming
Collaborate with colleagues and the English department to ensure curriculum alignment
Provide limited ELL support through brief assessment, targeted instruction, and collaboration with teachers, learning specialists, and divisional leadership
Communicate with families and faculty to support student success
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, English, or related field preferred
Experience teaching Middle School English preferred
Background in ELA instruction; experience with multilingual/ELL learners a plus
Understanding of second language acquisition and differentiated instructional strategies a plus
Strong communication, collaboration, and culturally responsive teaching skills
Commitment to culturally responsive, anti-bias, and inclusive teaching practices
