Video and Music Production Teacher

Position Purpose

The Video and Music Production Teacher provides leadership and guidance in the adoption of digital communications within the SCH community. Part visual storyteller, songwriter, digital media explorer, and cheerleader, this person will inspire students to communicate in new and innovative ways. The ideal candidate is a person who enjoys learning new technologies and fostering creative thought through individual projects. Additionally, as a member of the Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership team, this person will work to inspire students to be makers, problem solvers, and creative thinkers. This position will start in late August 2026.

Essential Functions

I. Middle School

  • Teaches both a 5th-grade and a 6th-grade course aligned with the New Media and CEL skills progression. These hands-on, project-based courses will teach students the foundations of creative problem solving, storytelling, and design. 
  • Supervises a Middle School Advisory.

II. Upper School

  • Curriculum design and instruction for two New Media Arts electives - Songwriting and Video Production.
  • New Media Studio instructor for the CEL Capstone - a semester-long, self-designed project experience for sophomore students. 
  • Oversees and assists with in-house production projects, including video production and studio audio recording for SCH Academy Performing Arts groups.

Qualifications

I. Technical Abilities

  • Knowledge of software that facilitates learning, which may include:
    • Adobe Creative Suite, with particular experience in the following tools:
      • DaVinci Resolve or Premiere Pro for video editing Premiere Pro for video editing 
      • After Effects for special effects and motion graphics
      • Adobe XD for prototyping
    • Logic Pro or Pro Tools
  • Experience running a recording studio - live music recording, podcasts, and post-production. 
  • Knowledge of advancing technologies, including but not limited to AI, gaming, XR, and other interactive media.
  • Ability to plan and execute projects and experience with teaching the Design Thinking process.   
  • Manage and maintain the Vidcast and Jamie Bell Recording Studio, overseeing equipment needs, inventory management, and coordinating maintenance when necessary.   
  • Support podcast production, including recording and coordinating the use of the facilities. 

II. Teaching Capacities

  • Be able to use a studio approach to teach creative media production. 
  • Experience teaching with an array of technology, which may include:
    • Lighting instruments 
    • Green screen & VFX 
    • Semi-pro camera operation
    • Audio Production & Recording recording

III. Other Necessary Qualifications

  • Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship building.
  • Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency skills and enthusiasm for issues of diversity, inclusivity, and multiculturalism.
  • Flexible and adaptable - able to juggle multiple projects across disciplines according to student interest and ability. 
  • Strong collaborative worker - who can provide technical guidance and support when asked by other members of the SCH community.     
  • Ability to troubleshoot and maintain technology and recording studio.
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written.
  • Ability to develop and implement curriculum, assessments, and utilize teaching methodologies/best practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to provide a supportive, caring, and positive environment for students.
  • Ability to maintain classroom discipline.
  • Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Comfortable with a team-based work structure.
  • Demonstrates initiative, is conscientious, and provides complete follow-through on areas of responsibility.
  • At a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in a New Media-related field.
  • At least two (2) years of experience teaching New Media or a related field.
  • Must have a passion for new possibilities and be a self-starter.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. 
  • Able to move around a classroom and other school environments.
  • Able to regularly use close and distance vision.
  • Turn, bend, reach, and occasionally climb.
  • Work in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
