Position Purpose:
Creates an engaging and inclusive PK-4 music learning environment that invites students to explore, create, and perform through singing, movement, play, and active listening. This role designs and delivers a developmentally responsive music curriculum grounded in early childhood pedagogy, emphasizing routine, repetition, and joyful exploration to build foundational musical skills and support collaborative ensemble experiences aligned with schoolwide curricular goals. As a passionate advocate for music education, the educator collaborates with faculty, colleagues, and families to integrate music across curricula and support students' academic and social-emotional growth while advancing the school's mission and values. This position begins on August 28, 2026.
I. Essential Functions:
- Leads PK-4 music instruction, including general music, choral singing, and age-appropriate instrumental practice.
- Coordinates planning, organization, and execution of concerts, assemblies, and other school-wide music events.
- Manages music inventory, instruments, and classroom spaces to ensure safe, organized, and effective learning environments.
- Incorporates innovative tools and methods in music instruction and maintains professional expertise through ongoing development.
- Creates a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students and establishes developmentally appropriate routines.
- Maintains regularly scheduled school hours and participates in school events, meetings, and professional responsibilities as required.
- Performs additional faculty duties as assigned and writes bi-annual narrative reports on student progress.
II. Student Instruction:
- Designs, adapts, and evaluates curriculum in collaboration with colleagues and administrators, differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Draws on pedagogical approaches such as Orff Schulwerk to support elemental music-making through movement, speech, percussion, and improvisation.
- Integrates culturally diverse music literature, including works by non-Western and underrepresented composers, while fostering an inclusive classroom community.
- Collaborates with homeroom teachers to integrate music into cross-curricular learning, creating meaningful connections across the curriculum.
- Integrates the study of a stage musical into the classroom curriculum, culminating in a developmentally appropriate concert-style performance.
- Facilitates student rehearsals and performances, including in-class presentations, assemblies, annual Lower School concerts, and community engagement activities.
- Plays and leads music for weekly Lower School assemblies, inviting students into communal singing and active music-making that supports school traditions and shared experiences.
- Evaluates student progress through multiple measures and tailors instruction to individual learning needs.
- Partners with families, faculty, and administrators to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth.
- Maintains professional expertise through ongoing development, contributing to the professional community and collaborative culture of the division.

IV. Any Other Duties Assigned by Head of Lower School
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a closely related field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated musicianship across multiple areas, including general music, vocal music, piano/keyboard proficiency, and age-appropriate instrumental instruction.
- Experience leading group singing, including assemblies, concerts, and classroom performances.
- Strong knowledge of music pedagogy and developmentally appropriate instructional practices for Lower School students, including experiential approaches such as Orff-inspired or play-based methods.
- Experience working with young children and a clear understanding of child development.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a team-based environment with flexibility and professionalism.
- Commitment to cultural competency and to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Strong planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
