Position Purpose:
The Lower School seeks a warm, thoughtful, and skilled educator to teach in our Pre-Kindergarten program. The teacher will create a joyful and structured classroom where young children build early literacy and numeracy skills, develop social confidence, and explore the world through play, inquiry, and meaningful relationships. Our Lower School values joyful learning, thoughtful inquiry, and the development of confident, curious children. Teachers in the Lower School work collaboratively with colleagues to continually strengthen teaching through reflection, shared planning, and engagement with research on how children learn. This position starts August 28, 2026.
Essential Functions:
I. Student Instruction:
- Designs and facilitates developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support early literacy, language development, numeracy, and social-emotional growth.
- Fosters curiosity, creativity, and confidence through play, exploration, and structured learning experiences.
- Follows, adapts, and develops curricula as appropriate.
- Evaluates student progress through multiple measures.
- Observes children carefully and adjusts instruction and classroom experiences to support individual developmental needs.
- Creates a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Supports positive behavior and social development through clear expectations, routines, and developmentally appropriate guidance.
II. Family Partnerships:
- Communicates regularly with families about student growth, classroom experiences, and developmental milestones.
- Conducts bi-annual parent conferences.
- Writes bi-annual narrative reports.
III. Professional Conduct:
- Works closely with assistant teacher and colleagues to create a collaborative classroom and divisional culture.
- Engages in professional learning and reflective practice to strengthen teaching.
IV. Any Other Duties Assigned by Head of Lower School
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field, preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- At least three years of experience working with young children in an early childhood or elementary setting preferred.
- Excellent communication, both oral and written.
- Knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, and materials for early elementary education.
- Experience teaching curricula/methodologies aligned to the Science of Reading.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive classroom where all children and families feel valued and supported.
- Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of community members with a continuous focus on healthy relationship building.
- Demonstrated deep understanding of cultural competency skills and enthusiasm for issues of diversity, inclusivity, and multiculturalism.
- Continued engagement in professional learning experiences through conferences, presentations, and/or workshops.
- Experience working collaboratively with assistant teachers in an early childhood classroom.
- Proficient with Google Workspace.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
- Able to move around all school environments.
- Regularly use close and distant vision.
