Position Summary: The Director of Finance & Operations serves as a strategic partner to the Head of School and a key member of the Wyndcroft Leadership Team. This role provides leadership and oversight of the school’s financial management, business operations, and administrative systems to ensure the long-term financial health and operational effectiveness of the school.

The Director works closely with the Head of School, the Board Treasurer, and the Finance Committee to develop sound financial strategy while ensuring disciplined execution of day-to-day financial operations.

This position requires a leader who combines strong financial expertise with careful attention to operational systems and institutional processes.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Head of School on financial and operational matters affecting the long-term sustainability of the institution.
  • Lead the school’s annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Head of School and Finance Committee.
  • Develop financial models, forecasts, and scenario planning tools to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide financial analysis and insight that informs institutional planning and resource allocation.
  • Support the work of the Board Finance Committee and Board of Trustees through clear financial reporting and analysis.
  • Participate actively in the Wyndcroft Leadership Team and contribute to school-wide planning and institutional initiatives.

Program Stewardship & Effectiveness

  • Financial Management
    • Prepare monthly financial reports and analysis for the Head of School and Finance Committee.
    • Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and long-term financial sustainability.
    • Ensure strong financial stewardship, internal controls, and responsible management of institutional resources.
    • Oversee financial aid budgeting and modeling in partnership with the admissions team.
    • Ensure accurate accounting practices and financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
    • Coordinate the school’s annual audit and respond to audit findings.
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations, tax filings, and institutional reporting requirements.
  • Business Office Operations
    • Oversee the effective functioning of the school’s business office operations, including:
      • Accounts payable and receivable
      • Tuition billing and financial aid processing
      • Financial recordkeeping and reporting
      • Vendor payments and contract management
      • Maintain and strengthen financial policies, procedures, and internal systems.
      • Ensure effective use of financial systems including Blackbaud Financial Edge, QuickBooks, FACTS, and other administrative platforms.
      • Oversee insurance coverage, risk management practices, and institutional filings.
  • Operational Leadership
    • Partner with the Director of Facilities and Head of School on capital planning and facilities budgeting.
    • Provide financial oversight for major campus improvement projects and vendor contracts.
    • Support operational systems and administrative processes that strengthen the effectiveness of school operations.
    • Coordinate technology systems planning with school vendors and administrators to support operational efficiency.

 

People Leadership

  • Supervise and support the work of the Business Office Coordinator.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to ensure strong financial procedures and effective administrative systems.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, and collaboration within the business office.
  • Support professional development and skill growth within the business office function.

Community Leadership

  • Collaborate with school administrators to ensure financial systems support the school’s academic and operational priorities.
  • Communicate financial information clearly and effectively to the Head of School, leadership team, and Board committees.
  • Represent the business office with professionalism and responsiveness in interactions with families, vendors, and community partners.
  • Contribute to a culture of transparency, stewardship, and institutional responsibility.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serve on school committees as requested.
  • Participate actively in the work of the Wyndcroft Leadership Team.
  • Support special projects or initiatives as assigned by the Head of School.
