Villa Maria Academy High School seeks a dedicated and student-centered Long-Term Substitute English Teacher. Rooted in the IHM charism, Villa is a Catholic, college-preparatory school committed to fostering academic excellence, faith, and leadership in young women.

Position Overview
The successful candidate will teach English I and Public Speaking, using provided curricula to engage students in meaningful learning experiences that strengthen their skills in reading, writing, and oral communication. This educator will cultivate a classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and confidence.

The ideal candidate would have PA certification in Secondary English, or commensurate experience and training.  Courses to be taught include English 1 and Public Speaking.  Curricula will be provided.  The successful candidate should demonstrate proficiency in the following areas:

  • A commitment to the Catholic identity of Villa Maria Academy and the mission of the IHM charism.
  • Demonstrated dedication and collaboration to help foster a love of oral and written communication.
  • Evidence of a content background and/or experience providing English instruction with the canonical works.
  • Proven fluency and willingness to use technology to enhance instructional delivery, including teaching in a virtual environment and one-to-one instruction.
  • Ability to conduct ongoing assessment of student growth, progress and modify instructional methods and curriculum to fit individual needs of students of varying levels and abilities.
  • Learning and utilizing the school’s learning management and student information systems for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required. 
  • Providing an advisory role to help guide students with course management, study skills, and social development.
  • Navigation skills for digital workflow.
  • Collaborative spirit when working with colleagues both within the English Department and across the Villa faculty. 
  • Fulfill non-teaching responsibilities as required.
