Who You Are

The Episcopal Academy seeks a Junior Varsity (JV) Dance Coach to lead its JV Dance Team and support the Upper School Dance Program. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic dance educator who enjoys working with developing dancers and helping students build technique, confidence, performance skills, and a strong sense of teamwork.

Working closely with the Head Dance Coach and reporting to the Theatre Department Chair, the JV Dance Coach helps create a positive, cohesive experience across the program. The JV team is an important developmental step for our students, giving dancers of varying experience levels the chance to strengthen their skills, perform as part of a team, and prepare for future participation at the varsity level.

What You Will Do

The JV Dance Coach contributes to the life of the Upper School Dance Program. Responsibilities include:

• Planning and leading JV Dance Team practices and rehearsals, teaching foundational and intermediate technique suited to the team's experience level
• Developing dancers' strength, flexibility, coordination, musicality, performance quality, and ensemble awareness
• Choreographing select pieces for performances and school events in collaboration with the Head Dance Coach
• Partnering regularly with the Head Dance Coach on choreography, team expectations, and student development to build continuity between the JV and Varsity programs
• Fostering a team culture that values effort, commitment, sportsmanship, and support for teammates
• Supervising students during practices and events, prioritizing their safety and coordinating with the athletic trainer as needed
• Communicating effectively with students, families, and colleagues, and attending scheduled performances and team events

About You

The ideal candidate for the JV Dance Coach at The Episcopal Academy demonstrates the following:

• A passion for coaching and mentoring Upper School students and a belief in the potential of every dancer
• Experience teaching or coaching dance with students of varying experience levels and abilities
• Comfort teaching and choreographing in a variety of styles, which may include jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, and ballet
• The ability to design engaging, age-appropriate practices that balance skill development, conditioning, choreography, and team building
• The ability to give clear, constructive feedback while holding high expectations and encouraging students to take risks and grow
• A collaborative, organized, and dependable approach to working with colleagues and families
• Familiarity with or interest in dance within a school athletics and performing arts program

Schedule: Weekdays, 4:00–6:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend performances and events
