Long Term Substitutes, 3rd Grade & 6th Grade Language Arts

Waldron Mercy Academy seeks two long term substitutes for Fall, 2024. One position is for Third Grade and will start on August 26, 2024 and is anticipated to end on October 18, 2024.  The other position is for 6th Grade Language Arts and will start on August 26, 2024 and is anticipated to end on November 29, 2024.  Waldron Mercy is an independent, coeducational Catholic school sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy located in Merion Station, PA (suburban Philadelphia), serving grades PreSchool -8.  We are a school where the joy of discovery inspires serious study, social responsibility, and strong faith. 

Essential Functions

• One position is responsible for teaching Language Arts to all 6th grade students.
• The other position is responsible to teach all subjects to one class of 3rd grade. 

     Classroom teachers are expected to:

• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicate those objectives to students
• Prepare course materials such as homework assignments, and handouts.
• Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress
• Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Communicate with parents and guardians to discuss  students’ progress

Qualifications

• Teaching Certification
• Bachelor degree in a related field of study
• A minimum of three years of teaching experience at an appropriate grade or age level is preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills with students, parents and colleagues.
• Demonstrated organizational skills

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
• May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
• Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
• Works primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment. 
• Works intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
